For Tim, Home and Community Options has been part of his life for many years. He lived in his own house while receiving support services from HCO, building a life and routine that were familiar and comfortable to him. Then, his support needs changed, and in 2021, he made the move into an HCO home.
It was a significant transition. Leaving his house and adjusting to a new living environment wasn’t easy at first. But with time, what began as a difficult change became the beginning of a great new chapter.
Today, Tim says the move has made his life better, safer, and less lonely. Through the relationships he has built with staff, he has developed trust and a sense of comfort. He appreciates being able to make his own choices while having the support he needs to live a life that is meaningful to him.
And it’s often the everyday moments that make a house feel like home.
Tim enjoys playing cards, doing arts and crafts, and going out to eat. He looks forward to watching The Price Is Right and enjoys pizza and ocean sushi. ZZ Top has been a favorite music artist ever since he saw the band perform at Ashley for the Arts. Some of his favorite memories have come from experiences in the community and the time he spends with those who support him.
When asked what his perfect day would look like, Tim’s answer was simple: spending the day at the river.
Looking ahead, he hopes to take another trip up north and continue making memories. But when asked what he enjoys most about living at HCO, his answer says more than any list of favorite activities ever could:
“It feels like home.”
For Tim, home isn’t simply a place. It’s the feeling of being comfortable, safe, supported, and known. It’s having people around who have earned his trust and being able to make choices about how he spends his days. It’s having the opportunity to create new memories while still holding onto the ones that matter most.
What started as a major transition has become a place of belonging. A place where Tim has found meaningful relationships, new experiences, greater support, and a home he can proudly call his own.
