Grassroots Advocacy: Speaking Up for Change
The Grassroots Advocacy Task Force met again in October, with the group being even bigger! The meeting started with reviewing the advocacy movements we talked about at our first meeting, like civil rights, women’s suffrage, and disability rights. These movements showed how people can work together to make life better and fairer for everyone. The main part of the meeting focused on challenges people are facing today. Many individuals shared that not having meaningful work is frustrating. They want jobs where they feel valued and respected, not just busy or overlooked. Safety and transportation were also big concerns. Some people talked about how walking in Winona can be unsafe because there aren’t enough crosswalks or sidewalks in some areas. Others said they don’t feel comfortable using the bus because of safety worries or schedules that make it hard to get to work or appointments on [...]
