Since joining HCO in 1993 and settling into her home, Terri has embraced a journey of personal growth and independence. She is dedicated to her job at Winona State University and she has shown the many signs of determination. While her heart has always cherished family vacations, she felt inspired to venture further.
In March, Terri embarked on an exhilarating odyssey by booking a Caribbean cruise through Able Trek Tours. This specialized company caters to the needs of individuals with disabilities and community members, offering seamless travel experiences. The trip began with a drive to Chicago followed by a flight to Florida where she stepped food onto the cruise ship. Despite feeling anxious about the flight, Terri displayed admirable bravery.
Nestled in her cabin with a beautiful view, Terri enjoyed the amenities the ship provided! She indulged in the onboard delights, from perusing charming gift shops, enjoying numerous restaurants, to attending captivating shows such as “Beauty and the Beast” and an amazing magician performance.
While there was so much to do on the boat itself, setting foot on the sun-kissed shores of the Cayman Islands was remarkable! Terri embraced the local culture through leisurely shopping excursions, collecting souvenirs like a magnet and a stylish tote bag. While enjoying the warmth of the tropical sun, she enjoyed moments of serenity on the sandy beaches and swimming in the ocean waves.
This trip stands as a testament to our commitment to inspiring the lives of those we serve. Witnessing Terri’s courageous stride towards independence has been profoundly moving. Now, her conversations brim with dreams of future adventures. With her unwavering motivation and steadfast work ethic, there’s no doubt that Terri will soon find herself once again embracing life’s adventures on the open seas!
