At the heart of our agency’s mission to support individuals with developmental disabilities is a story of kindness, generosity, and the power of giving. Thanks to the support of Rose, a caring donor, one of our residential programs is home to Ellie—a special cat who brings joy and comfort to the individuals we serve.
Rose’s generosity began after she lost her own beloved cats. Wanting to stay connected to animals, she chose to sponsor Ellie, making sure she always has food, veterinary care, and a loving home. But Rose’s gift is more than just financial support—it’s a commitment to improving the lives of both Ellie and the individuals in our care. Today, Ellie thrives in a warm and welcoming home, bringing happiness to everyone around her. She is more than just a pet; she is a beloved member of the household, offering companionship, laughter, and comfort every day.
Ellie became part of our residential program when she was just a one-year-old kitten. She originally belonged to a staff member who had to move to an apartment that didn’t allow pets. Thanks to the program’s welcoming environment and Rose’s ongoing support, Ellie has flourished into a treasured companion.
Now nine years old, Ellie is full of adventure and affection. She enjoys spending time both indoors and outdoors, often exploring for about an hour before returning home—much to the delight of the residents who look forward to seeing her. The ladies in the house all interact with Ellie in their own way, whether it’s cleaning her litter box, feeding her, and refilling her water; petting her and enjoying her gentle presence; offering her a cozy, sunny spot in their rooms; or spoiling her with treats while making sure she stays out of trouble. Ellie is truly part of the family, bringing everyone closer together.
Ellie’s presence has made the home even more special. Studies show that spending time with animals can lower stress, boost mood, and even improve health. For individuals with developmental disabilities, these benefits are even greater, helping them feel a sense of responsibility, connection, and joy.
None of this would be possible without Rose’s kindness. Her generosity has made a lasting impact—not just on Ellie but on an entire home. She is a reminder that even small acts of kindness can make a big difference.
As we celebrate this special bond, we want to thank Rose for her compassion and belief in the power of pet companionship. Her support is an inspiration, showing us all how kindness can create lasting change.
We invite you to join us in recognizing the amazing impact of donors like Rose. Together, we can continue to build a community where everyone feels valued, supported, and loved—one purr, one paw at a time.
