Laura’s story is one of love, growth, and choosing to invest in herself.

Originally from Caledonia, where she attended and graduated from high school, Laura moved to Winona in 1995. In 2011, she moved into Iverson Court, a place that would later hold some of the most meaningful chapters of her life.

Laura and her husband, David, first met while working at Fastenal. They had known each other for many years before they began dating. When she first met him, she remembers thinking he had a great sense of humor and was incredibly sweet. To this day, she says he would do anything to make her happy. They were married on August 3, 2013, and after their wedding, they moved in together and began building their life side by side.

Some of Laura’s favorite memories are the trips they’ve taken together. For their honeymoon, they traveled to Florida and visited Disney World. They have also enjoyed visiting family in other states, camping, shopping, taking trips to La Crosse, and simply spending quality time together. On their days off, they enjoy getting coffee, going to church, and watching movies. Their relationship is filled with laughter, companionship, and genuine care.

For 31 years, Laura has worked at ORC, showing incredible dedication and commitment. In her free time, she enjoys adult coloring books, reading, shopping, diamond painting, going out with friends, and spending time with her husband.

Although Laura lived at Iverson Court for years, she did not initially receive services from Home and Community Options. However, she saw firsthand the positive impact HCO had on her husband. She appreciated the support he received and loved living in a community where she could see that care in action.

In December, after many years of waiting and advocating for the support she needed, Laura was finally able to begin services with HCO. Throughout that time, she remained persistent, working alongside her support team to reach this important milestone. Her health also played a significant role in the timing, as she recognized the need for additional support and chose to prioritize her well-being.

In addition to working on her health, Laura appreciates the support she receives with staying organized, grocery shopping, and managing bills. Having that structure and assistance has helped her feel more confident and in control of her daily life. She is also currently working on decluttering their apartment and says it feels amazing to go through belongings and let go of things they no longer need.

Since starting services, Laura has focused on building healthier habits. With encouragement and guidance, she has lost 20 pounds and is continuing to work toward her wellness goals. The positive reinforcement and helpful ideas she receives have made a meaningful difference, especially on the days when staying motivated can be challenging.

Laura cannot say enough good things about the staff and the friends she has at Iverson Court. The encouragement, support, and relationships she has built mean so much to her. She is incredibly happy she made this change for herself and her health.

It is truly inspiring to see someone who once experienced services through her husband now embracing that same support for herself. Laura is flourishing, and it is beautiful to witness her continued growth and confidence.
