Home and Community Options (HCO) recently held a Civic Engagement training session, exploring key topics related to citizenship and civic responsibilities. The session started with a short video, which set the stage for the evening’s discussion. Participants learned about what it means to be a citizen, the importance of civic duties, and how each individual can contribute to the greater good. The training emphasized the vital role of civil servants, the importance of following laws, and the reasons why citizens pay taxes. Participants also discussed ways to support the armed forces, the value of protecting our environment, and the significance of helping others. Volunteering was highlighted as a powerful tool for creating positive change, alongside responsibilities such as jury duty, running for public office, and the essential act of voting. Overall, the training inspired attendees to be more active participants in their community, fostering a sense of shared responsibility and civic pride. Funding for this training was provided through a Civic Engagement grant from the United Way of Olmsted County.
