When Tom was just eight years old, he learned to knit while he was at the St. Louis Children’s Hospital. His grandmother, a patient and loving teacher, sat by his side and introduced him to the calming rhythm of the needles—a craft that would become one of his lifelong passions. Today, decades later, Tom has mastered more than 20 different stitches, and he’s using that talent to give back in a meaningful way.

In recent years, Tom has poured his time, creativity, and care into making beautiful, handcrafted blankets for HCO programs and to give as gifts. Using donated yarn, he transforms soft strands into cozy works of art. These blankets are more than just a way to stay warm; they are heartfelt gifts stitched with intention and love.

For the HCO houses, the blankets are a true act of generosity—gifts from Tom himself, meant to offer comfort to those who live there. His work adds a personal, thoughtful touch to the homes, reflecting the values of kindness and community that HCO holds dear.

Tom’s love for knitting is more than a hobby—it’s a way to connect, to give, and to brighten someone’s day. We’re so grateful for his creativity, his kindness, and his commitment to our HCO family. His story reminds us that small acts of love—stitched one row at a time—can make a big difference.
