Before moving into his current home, life for David looked a little different. He grew up on a farm with his parents, surrounded by open fields and familiar routines. His journey with Home and Community Options began at the Saehler Drive Resource Home, and in time, he made the transition to the home where he now lives—a place he has called home for nearly a decade.
Over the years, this house has become much more than just a place to live. It’s where David feels comfortable, connected, and truly at home. When he’s not busy with daily routines, he enjoys relaxing with a good movie or playing sports video games. On warm days, you’ll often find him sitting on the porch, soaking up the weather while listening to music on the speaker.
Over time, his home has become a place of friendship and trust, where he’s built lasting relationships with both staff and housemates. These connections have continued to grow, creating a true sense of community and belonging. David also enjoys helping out around the house and takes pride in contributing, whether it’s taking out the trash or spending time in the kitchen. One of his favorite things to bake is banana bread—something he enjoys making and sharing.
David also loves getting out into the community and enjoying new foods. KFC is a top choice, but his tastes are adventurous—he enjoys Chinese food, chicken wings, frog legs, and rhubarb pie. Though he manages dietary restrictions around sugar and caffeine, he admits it isn’t always easy. Still, he continues to take positive steps forward, including watching his carb intake and staying committed to his health goals.
A passionate local sports fan, David enjoys cheering on the Winona Winhawks football and basketball teams. Looking ahead, he’s especially excited about the possibility of attending a barnyard basketball game in the Twin Cities—an event he’s looking forward to with great enthusiasm.
David’s presence brings joy, strength, and laughter to the home he’s made. We are grateful for the many years he has been part of the HCO family and for the story he continues to write—one filled with resilience, growth, and meaningful connection.
