Mission
It is the mission of Home and Community Options, Inc., to provide support and residential services to people with developmental disabilities in order to enable individuals to live as full members of their communities.

The vision of Home and Community Options, Inc., is for all individuals to have opportunities to enjoy life, strive to reach their potential, and be accepted members of the community.

History

March 14, 1975 First organized meeting with Winona area community organizers to discuss feasibility of developing a home for the retarded. Members were parents, ARC Members, Winona County Human Services and community advocates.
August 14, 1975 Incorporation of Group Homes of Winona, Inc.
Carl Iverson was elected as President.
January 9, 1976 Frank Eorio was appointed as acting Executive Director.
The first licensed residence at 377 Main Street was opened.
January 13, 1977 Sharon Sacia (Kannenberg) was offered the position of Executive Director.
July 1979 Planning for second group home facility begins.
April 1980 Discussion begins to develop semi-independent living services.
February 1981 Second group home at 252 West Wabasha opens.
April 1981 Plans begin to develop a HUD Apartment complex.
January 1983 Semi-Independent Living Services drop-in center opens.
July 1984 Iverson Court opens.
January 1985 Agency begins to develop Respite Care Services.
July 1985 Agency begins providing services utilizing Medicaid Waiver.
December 1985 Plan to reduce size of 377 Main from 12 to 6 clients.
May 1986 First small community residence service begins at 855 East King.
February 1987 Plans to begin first Corporate Foster Care site.
June 1, 1987 Name change from Group Homes of Winona, Inc. to Home and Community Options, Inc.
January 1990 Agency begins Personal Care Attendant Services.
March 1993 Founding Executive Director, Sharon Kannenberg passes away suddenly.
June 1993 Dennis Theede hired as Executive Director.
August 1997 Agency closes Group Home at 252 West Wabasha and no longer provides group home services. Utilizes small corporate foster care model of 2-4 people as residential model of choice.
August 1998 Family Resource Home model begins.
February 2002 Second Family Resource Home established.
August 2005 Home and Community Options begins a HCO Neighbors Recognition for financial supporters and inducts nine members.
December 2006 Agency certified to provide Children’s Therapeutic Services and Supports.
