This summer, Home and Community Options had the pleasure of welcoming Jack Macur to the Communications Team as part of his college internship—and what a difference he’s made.

Jack is currently pursuing a degree in Communication Studies with a minor in Mass Communications at Winona State University. Though his academic path brought him to this internship, Jack’s connection to HCO began well before his time in the Central Office. In 2022, he started working as a Direct Support Professional (DSP), a role he quickly grew passionate about—and one in which he continues to support individuals today.

Originally from Mukwonago, a small town in southeast Wisconsin, Jack moved to Winona after high school to attend WSU. During the summer following his sophomore year, he began looking for work and heard about HCO through a roommate who was already working as a DSP. Though he hadn’t initially pictured himself in this field, Jack decided to give it a try, and quickly discovered it was the most enjoyable and rewarding job he’d ever had.

That same passion and dedication carried over into his internship. Since joining the Communications Team in May, Jack has brought fresh ideas, strong writing skills, and a thoughtful perspective to every project. He has played a key role in gathering story content by interviewing both individuals supported by HCO and staff, and he’s contributed to telling those stories through his writing. Jack has also been an insightful voice in planning meetings, helping the team consider how to better engage with younger audiences and community members.

Whether assisting with stories, brainstorming ideas, or jumping in wherever needed, Jack has been an enthusiastic and reliable part of the team. His positivity, adaptability, and curiosity have made him a joy to work with—and his contributions have truly made an impact.

Outside of work and school, Jack enjoys staying active through golf, weightlifting, and outdoor adventures. A lifelong fisherman and avid hunter, he especially enjoys time on the water, with the Eagle River Chain of Lakes in Wisconsin holding a special place in his heart. Whether outdoors or surrounded by friends and family, Jack values connection and meaningful experiences in all areas of life.

As Jack’s internship wraps up, we are incredibly thankful for the time he spent with us. His energy, talent, and heart have made a lasting impression. We know he has a bright future ahead—and we can’t wait to see what he does next.
