Good Neighbor Award Banquet
Home and Community Options honored Mark Roeckers and Ed Lagace at the Providers, Inc. Good Neighbor Award in Rochester, MN on 11/10/2009. This SE MN award is given to individuals that develop, foster and maintain relationships with people with developmental disabilities.
Mark Roeckers has performed in twelve of Home and Community Options annual musical productions. The musicals are unique because they integrate people with developmental disabilities alongside other community actors. During the past twelve years, Mark has been a friend, mentor and voice for people with special needs. As the “star” of most of our shows, Mark’s roles are demanding and stressful, but he always takes the time to make sure that everyone is having fun and staying safe. Many of the relationships created during the long rehearsal hours and during the show have continued outside the theater. Mark truly is a good neighbor.
Ed Lagace, a Park Ranger from the US Fish and Wildlife Services, shared his time and resources with Home and Community Options this summer. Ed taught Gyotaku, the Japanese Art of Fish Printing, to some of the children from our children’s resource home. This process involves painting a fish (rubber) and stamping it onto t-shirts and bandanas. Ed also has taken groups of clients on fishing trips and interactive tours of the Wild Life Refuge. For all of these activities, Ed has provided all of the gear and material-fishing poles, binoculars, coloring books, bracelets, painting supplies.
